A magical time in the city
Remember 2019? Christmas in London: Winter Wonderland, glittering lights, enchanted woodlands, Santa’s grottos, gift wrapped shops, pop up markets and carol concerts. Classic seasonal theatre - “White Christmas" - and, vintage films - who doesn’t love “It’s a Wonderful Life”? Fourteen skating rinks. Giant Christmas trees in colourful squares.
But this is 2020, the year of the global pandemic. As the country moves from full to tiered lockdown in early December one thing is certain. This will not be a normal Christmas in the city. Many seasonal events will not happen, and there are restrictions on numbers of people allowed to meet. But some parts of London look more beautiful than ever.
These images capture just tiny moments of festive London. Some from this year interspersed with pictures from years gone by. Memories of wonderful times in a great city.
