Death Valley is one of the World’s great photographic locations. On a recent visit there I went to Zabriskie Point on several occasions. It was close to my hotel and a staggeringly beautiful place. These were two very good reasons to keep returning. Each time I was lucky enough to encounter quite amazing light. These three photographs of Death Valley feature Zabriskie Point in different situations.
The photograph above shows the location just before dawn on day one of my visit. Beautiful blue light illuminates the scene.
The second shot shows Zabriskie apparently illuminated by a ball of fire in a dramatic sunset. In all my years of taking photographs at dusk I do not think I have seen a sunset quite like this one.
The third of my featured shows Zabriskie with a pink hue on another morning at dawn. Note the first light of day on the Sierra Nevada range just above the peak.
Zabriskie is just one of many great locations in and around Death Valley. Others include Badwater Basin, Dante’s View, Father Crowley’s Point, the Devil’s Golf Course and the Racetrack. There are numerous fabulous drives within the park.
A series of images from this trip to Death Valley will be added to the Natural World Collection later in the year.View more photographs of the Natural World online
